Getting to the tail end of last year, I pleaded with Nyla to share her experience with making money as a fashion business person. The whole concept surrounds making money a niche market which is usually ingnored. Creating a micro economy of you own where you can harness the full market potential. She particular created a mini-economy with virtual fashion designs and I asked if she would be willing to share her experince with other fashion designers. Despite her busy shedule, Nyla was able to explain it to detail an find below the interview I hard with her. Enjoy reading it!!
What are the potential benefits in virtual world communications for fashion designers?
There is a long list of benefits for emerging fashion
designers choosing to communicate through virtual worlds. These
benefits include exploring design, understanding your customer, colour
preference , the development of the "Brand", Styling the Image ,
Creating collections or lines , experiencing fashion show production , to name a few... all for a very low cost in
comparison to our real world set up costs. At present , for me
personally I see it as the baby steps or building blocks of creating
something bigger in the real world for House of Nyla and in the future I believe it will be a common form of communication. Used in every way imaginable from Love to business for communicating in the Global economy.
-Why do you see the virtual world to be future of communication for fashion marketers?
It is visual and accessable to all with internet connection , virtual worlds bring people together in an inexpensive, a Green way ... Where else can people from around the world, meet all in the same place to witness an event in real time. And at the same time be able to communicate with each other through avatars which offer a close experience for those in the know. All for the cost of internet connection ;) Virtual fashion week , virtual trade shows , virtual product production lines are all in our future and are already being created.
-What are your personal experiences in virtual world communications/business?
That is almost an impossible question to answer, my experiences in
virtual world communication/business are vast. Virtual worlds seem to
travel on hyper speed with constant change. I feel like I know Second
Life very well but as we all know technology moves fast , times will
change and keeping up will be the fun part ;)
-What are the future trends to pay attention to for effective virtual world communication in the fashion business?
I
think this medium is still very new and trends will be something of the
future once enough time has passed to actually track trends. History is
being written as these worlds unfold and people harness their true
potential.
-What is fashion in a small economy?
What I meant, when I said, it is fashion in a mini economy is, that right now Second Life is a reflection of our real world, the microcosm in
the macrocosm. At the moment Second Life is mimicking the real world
and real world interaction. One day soon Virtual worlds will be used for
real life communication and business, like the internet is today , the
difference being it is all in 3d with a
much richer experience then the websites of today. I think many early
adopters like myself believed it would happen faster but like anything in
the real world it will take time to develop to that level. I believe my
children (when I have them) their generation will be the ones to fully
adopt this amazing technology for its true potential.
So at the moment the mini virtual economy is
the dollars spent on virtual goods that can be earned
and converted into real US dollars through paypal or cheque from Linden
Lab. However in the future it will play a greater role in the real world economy , just like the internet is a part of today.
-what are the trends in mini economy fashion businesses?
In many ways virtual fashion mimics real life fashion trends.
-What are the key success factors?
The
key success factors are , learning how to function/operate within
virtual worlds, connecting with the community, creating something
special memorable, and learning how to get your message out through
social networking.
